Description

Academic work has the power to shape policy and public dialogue — but only if it reaches beyond traditional audiences.  Join us for a practical conversation on how academics can bring their scholarship into public life. Through examples and resources from the Scholar Strategy Network, we will explore ways to engage productively with media, policymakers, and community organizations.

Elizabeth Rigby, Ph.D. is Associate Professor of Public Policy and Public Administration at George Washington University.   Rigby's work examines the politics of inequality and redistribution: identifying conditions shaping the public's policy preferences, examining the policymaking process that shapes health, education, and welfare policies, and assessing the consequences of these policy choices on the level of racial and income inequality in our society. Rigby has worked at the intersection of politics, inequality, and public policy in a range of roles and organizations including: Senate Finance Committee, Project Vote Smart, Citizens for Missouri's Children, the National Center for Children and Families, and St. Louis Public Schools.

Mandana Mohsenzadegan is Director of Member Engagement at Scholars Strategy Network, where she helps university-based scholars join SSN and provides public engagement support to our network of nearly 2,000 members. Prior to her current role, Mandana was a Senior Communications Associate on the communications team, where she provided op-ed editing and pitching support to scholars, connected scholars to journalists, facilitated SSN workshops, and directed SSN’s No Jargon podcast. Mandana holds a master’s degree in English literature and a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Before joining SSN, she was an English lecturer at San Jose State University and an English adjunct at Evergreen Valley College.
